Step into the princess’ chambers …..

Welcome to MEL'AMORE — a fanweek dedicated entirely to
a submissive Mel Medarda.
This event will be held the week of Valentine's: from 2/9 - 2/15.

Why Sub Mel Week? Black femmes are rarely depicted as having devoted partners, being pampered, or feeling safe enough to release control the same way their non-black counterparts are in kink-related works. As of now, the Sub Mel Medarda tag on Ao3 has less than 20 works, a stark contrast to the large number of fics that portray her only as a dominant. This event was born from the desire to break Mel out of the box she’s been placed in, and to show that fictional black women come in all shapes and sizes, just as black women do in real life.

This event sounds cool… but I’m not quite sure I fully understand what a submissive means? We definitely recommend doing your own research on this subject! We are not experts and this is not intended to be an educational event. While there is no ‘universal’ or definitive way to be submissive that fits everyone, this event is using the following definition:

    What can submissive mean?

    • choosing to give control to your partner in established situations

    • allowing yourself to be vulnerable and open

    • having trust in your partner to know what you like

    • enjoying following rules or being told what to do

    • letting someone else take care of you

    • enjoying expected/planned punishment for not doing what you’re told

    • allowing your partner to decide if and when you orgasm (and how many times)

    • asking your partner to choose how you’re pleasured (position, location, frequency)

    What does submissive not mean?

    • being worth less than your partner/dominant

    • always/exclusively ‘bottoming’ or being on the receiving end of penetration

    • never having self-respect or confidence

    • having no boundaries and letting your partner do anything, even things you don’t like

    • never taking care or looking after your partner/dominant in return

    • being stupid or not smart enough to look after yourself

Here is some further reading, including perspectives written by black women on Kink in general:

    ———

Do I have to depict Mel in a specific submissive role? Not at all. While the theme for our art and graphics is inspired by a ‘princess submissive’ archetype, we welcome other interpretations such as Mel as a bratty submissive, service sub, or a rope bunny!

    ———

Are there any banned topics? Yes. This is intended to be a feelgood event that uplifts Mel Medarda, meaning certain kinds of triggering content will not be accepted. There have been multiple racist and harmful depictions of Mel being experimented on, brutalized, and even murdered through medical torture in the Arcane fandom. The excuse of being ‘against censorship’ will not be tolerated as a reason to promote racism. This event does not allow the following: rape, underage, grooming, incestous or pseudo incestous relationships, medical tortoure, stalker/serial killer AUs, slave/racial play, pet play, age play, infidelity/cheating, and cucking.

Is this event exclusive to Arcane ships with Mel? Nope! We’re supportive of Mel being featured in crossover ships, as long as they don’t break any previously mentioned rules. Arcane, League of Legends, and characters from any other fandom are welcome (for example KPDH). We also support Mel in polyamours relationships; our pretty princess deserves to be spoiled throughout Runeterra and more!

Our team’s only ask is that Mel remains the center focus of your piece no matter the ship since this event is about her.

    ———

Does the position I draw / write Mel in matter? No, this is a week just about Mel as a submissive. She can be a bottom, top, or switch.

    ———

Are trans and nonbinary depictions allowed? Absolutely! This event welcomes and encourages all trans, nonbinary, and gender nonconforming depictions of Mel and/or any other characters involved. While our event art presents Mel as femme-presenting, the stereotyping of black men (whether trans or cis) as dominant in sexual relationships is also a rampant issue.

To make this week as fun and engaging for you as possible, we'll be having a double prompt list based on your votes and suggestions! Who doesn't love a bit of sugar and spice?

Every prompt will also be split to give particpants more freedom of choosing an open ended prompt for the day versus another that is more straightforward (Hugs & Kisses versus Dry Humping).

Stay tuned for our voting form!
